Authentication mechanism?

Zandy

I am able top receive emails by loggin on COX.NET. However I can not get them
on windows mail for the past two days. When I hit send & receive i get the
following message:

Account: 'pop.west.cox.net', Server: 'pop.west.cox.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR An authentication mechanism MUST be entered', Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

I've tried leaving the SSL, server authentication, and secured password
authentication in all combinations of checked and unchecked and I still dont
get emails... I can send out though. I've deleted the account several times
and reset it. I am using the following settings.

SMTP.WEST.COX.NET
POP.WEST.COX.NET

Does anyone know if the SSL, server authentication, and secured password
authentications should be checked or not? and what an authentication
mechanism is? THank you.

Do not enable SSL, or secure password authentication.
But make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication" must be checked.
If you still get an error with those settings, post the error message (if
different from the one below).
