Receiving Messages

I dont seem to be having a problem sending emails but i cannot receive any.
When i try to receive any messages the following message pops up:

Account: 'pop.west.cox.net', Server: 'pop.west.cox.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR An authentication mechanism MUST be entered', Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

And why is it that im prompted for a username and password? I dont want a
password for my email. Why am i being asked this question? I have tried my
fathers username and password since our cox account in under his name, but
it doesn't seem to be working.

How do i fix these problems? Someone please help!

The error message indicates that you probably have either the user name of
the password wrong.
The password is case sensitive and must be typed with the proper capital and
lower case letters.
Some servers want your whole email address and some just want the part
before the @.

Here's cox.net's instructions for setting Outlook Express up to use their
email
servers. They should also work for Windows Mail.

Whether you want it or not, each email account must have a username
and password. Without that, anyone could access your email.
The other responders have already advised you on how to proceed.
