authentication box when accessing router

I have an ADSL Ethernet router. When I try to access it via
http://xxx.xxx.x.xxx (using its real IP obviously) I get that little WinXP
box requesting some login details. I can't for the life of me remember what
they are, and for some reason the only options in the dropdown box are
Hotmail addresses as with MSN Passport/Messenger.

I only want to log in as 'admin' but have tried every variation of this and
still can't get past this screen. Any ideas?

Post the router manufacture and model.

I'll also bet you can download the user manual from the manufacture web site
or at least instructions to reset the router to it's defaults.

Slight catch, it is the most nondescript looking router I've ever seen.
Minimal information on its casing, and I threw the box out ages ago. The
whereabouts of the manual has caused me to make a right mess of my flat this
afternoon, though i did find this: http://www.cazart.plus.com/conexant/ and
that looks like mine though mine doesn't actually say Conexant on it. The
back has this number: L0098XG2D002383. I've just put that into a search
engine but it didn't uncover much.

Did you try to follow the instruction given on that page for "forgot your
password"?

Yep, am saving that option for the last resort cos it means configuring the
whole thing again.

And that 'epicrouter' one doesn't work either.
