Hi All,

On my system svchost fil keeps running constantly. After checking various
sites I found out that it is due to automatic update. And when I stopped auto
update my system works normally.

Now how do I resolve this problem. As I would like my auto update to be
enabled and at the same time keep running my laptop properly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Having auto update running is not too bright, being as updates should be
done with some preparation. Updates come out every second Tuesday of
every month. Think you can remember that and turn it on then? What do
you do to prepare for updates, nothing?

You can set the update feature to tell you when updates are available but
not automatically download. That may be better for you.

You receive an access violation error and the system may appear to
become unresponsive when you try to install an update from Windows
Update or from Microsoft Update
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/

If KB927891 has not been installed previously, download and *save* it
from the links for Step 1
Then go here, download and save the latest Version of the Windows Update
Agent [WUA] from the supplied links in this blog article:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blogs/mowgreen/index.php?showentry=1172

After all downloads are completed, close all open programs and browsers.
Install KB927891 first. Restart the system if requested to.
Now install the the WUA using the method laid out in the blog article.
Restart the system.

Did that resolve the issue ?

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.
