I still cannot get autocomplete to work on both my Dell workstation and
laptop. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and IE7 on both of them.
I have tried most if not all of the posted suggestions, certainly all those
from Don Varnau, but without success.
Is anyone else in the same situation?
Autocomplete works fine in Outlook 2007 but not IE7.
Are there any diagnostics or fixes I could try that apply to Vista ultimate?

Since this is the first time I have seen you post, have you gone into
internet tools, options, content, autocomplete settings and checked any that
you want?

Hi John, Yes I did that. All 4 boxes are checked. Following an earler
thread I even tried unselecting them all, rebooting and then re-selecting
them, with no succeess. I do get prompted to save passwords, but hey are
never saved when I return to the site.
Could it be that some security feature is blocking autocomplete? I often
feel am fghting a sligtly loosing battle with Windows Vista although my
frustartions are declining somewhat.

Any chance you are using some product to clean cookies or do other registry
cleaning, such as Window Washer, CCleaner etc.? You can use regedit and
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\Storage2 to see if
you have password entries. They are encrypted and there are entries for
sites you have rejected password saving, but you can see if somehow they are
being cleaned out.

Hi John, I looked for entries as you suggested and found no storage2. I did
find many entries under storage1.
I have not installed any of the software you mention. The computer is only
a few months old and, going from past experience, I have not installed
unnecessary software.
The computer did come from Dell with Google desktop already installed, but I
have uninstalled that software. Could Google Desktop have left some registry
entries that are blocking autocomplete?

I'm not familiar with Google Desktop, but it seems unlikely. You could try
setting IE to default settings, but you will loose any settings you have
made and it disables any add-ons. About the only things it doesn't change
are proxy settings and favourites. It is weird you would have the same
problem on two computers. I suggest you go to the
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general first, to see if anyone over
there, where there is specific IE7 expertise, can help. Maybe you can
search the newsgroup and see if a similar problem has been reported.
