Not sure when this happened but I upgraded a Dell from
windows 98 to 2000 Professional. I have no audi on my CD
playbacks. When I go into Sounds and Multimedia
Properties there is no playback device. Not sure I can
use any help

Thanks

You didn't supply a Windows 2000 driver for whatever audio hardware you
have. Visit the Dell site, download and install the proper driver.

That might help, or not.

I run Win2k Windows Update and included an update of the sound driver,
now I do not have sound.

The correct driver IS installed, the device us working 'fine', but no
sound.

After boot I MUST reinstall SAME driver to get sound - efer every boot.

That is one of the downsides to getting "hardware" driver updates from
the MS update site. They occasionally don't quite match your hardware
and then don't work right afterwards. More frequently with video cards
but as you observe, sound cards also. Would suggest getting the Correct
driver from the manufacturer's site and use that.
