I thought I had licked this problem after wiping my HD clean and
re-installing WinXP on my HP laptop but it's back. I have a HP Pavilion
xz355 laptop with a Mobility Radeon 8500 video card, 512 MGs of Ram running
Win XP home version (which is installed from a recovery disk, not a retail
version of WinXP). In "Device Manager" under Hardware, under "Sound, Video
and Game Controllers" I have a "Avance AC97 Audio" listed. My problem is
that each time I boot my laptop Windows thinks I have new hardware and
installs "Avance 97 Audio" with a reboot at the end of each installation. I
have to start hitting cancel to end this cycle. Is there and error in my
Registry that is causing this? How can I fix it, please.
Thanks for any help,
