Audio problems in Messenger 6.1

For those having trouble using MSN messenger 6.1 for audio and
videoconference I suggest a piece of Software called "Realtunnel".

I've browsed thru newsgroups for days and have tried to get my MSN
Messenger to work trying all sorts of things (UPnP, changing firewall
settings, uncheck QoS packet scheduling, changing rtcdll.dll,
triggering ports in my router, ...), to no avail.

This software solved my 'problem' in under 2 minutes...

My configuration:

W XP
MSN V6.1.0.23
Wireless modem, access point & router "Xavi" all in one (distributed
by Spanish telco operator Telefonica).

Greetings Felix,

Judging by the network configuration you indicated (Wireless modem/access point/router), you
were using a NAT (essentially Internet "sharing") -- in order to have a voice/video
conversation in Messenger behind a NAT, the actual hardware devices must have support for
UPnP, if they do not, then it simply will not work.

Sorry to butt in here but I thought maybe you could help me to enable voice
and video with my Messengers (MSN 6.1 or Windows 4.7 with the plugins). My
equipment is properly detected and tuned yet I can never establish voice and
video contact with friends who have no such problems. We end up using Yahoo!
Messenger but I don't want to ask people to install Yahoo! only for my sake.
Sorry again for directly asking for assistance.

I see that many like me cannot use audio in (MSN) Messenger 6.1.0203. I had the problem even with 6.0. I have tried all HELP suggesstion without success. The cam always work as well as both audio and cam in Yahoo Messenger.

When I run XPsp1 Home edition with XP's Internet Connection Firewall activated I get a message from the other end that says it's a problem at the other site and the other site cannot connect to me (but to others!).

With the ICF inactived audio works fine. Which ports, protocols and server(s) should be opened?

I don't use NAT. I connect to the Internet through a D-Link DSL-200 ADSL USB Modem.

To turn off ICF:

1. Open Network Connections
2. Right-click your Internet connection
3. Click Properties
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. Uncheck Enable ICF

You probably shouldn't turn off ICF unless you have another firewall
because that could put you more at risk for an attack on your computer.
