audio lag

Please help! After inconsistent time, all players (i.e., WinAmp, Windows
Media Player 11, Real Player) lap for about 4 seconds before resuming
playback. The lag repeats constantly.

My system:

Win XP Home SP3 with all latest updates
1.8 GHz Pentium M laptop
512 MB Ram
Conexant AC-Link 2 Audio

I don't know if my experience is applicable, but, with my Intel MB, I had to
re-install the latest audio drivers after SP3 update. I wasn't having "lags",
but I was having pops and clicks at odd times.

Intel required that the previous drivers (and Intel Audio Studio) be manually
removed; but after I did that, my sound problems went away.
