I have an MP3 file that I want to break down into separate tracks before
burning on to a CD. I'm looking for a freeware program to do so. I've
tried MP3TAG and MP3DIRECT CUT, but both were too complicated to figure
out. Any recommendations on a user friendly program to do this?

I use Audacity ( see Pricelessware pages ).

You'll need the Lame.dll if you want to save section as MP3s.

I use MP3 DirectCut and find it very easy to use. Just run the source file,
type "b" at the beginning of the section you require and "n" at the end. Use
spacebar to stop or start. File > Save Selection to save the piece you have
marked. They don't come more user friendly.

When CD burning is the goal I would advise not to compress again and to
export to Wave.
