audio edit

I'm using Moviemaker 2 and have a number of questions. I want to cut out
portions of the audio track. I've figured out how to cut picture but sound
doesn't seem to work the same way. How do I get the timeline to recognize
that I want to work with the audio track only?

Does Movie Maker allow an inpoint and out point to be inserted as with
professional systems? Otherwise how to cut a portion of audio in the middle
of a clip?

Also, I see that one can fade in and out but when I follow the directions,
mark the point go to fade in nothing happens.

Thank you.

Sound works the same way if you are referring to the audio/music track....
the other audio track that's associated with the video clip goes with the
video.

Movie Maker uses in and out trim points... if you need more than one of each
in a clip, you need to split the clip and apply them to the two new smaller
clips. If you split a clip into 3 parts, you can mute or change the volume
of the middle part.

Fade in and out occurs in less than a second. If you need longer ones, use a
plain black picture file and fade from one to the other.

Hello Florentine,

Fortunately what you want to do is easy.

This assumes you have just one video clip together with its audio track.

Drag the whole clip to the time line and then right click the audio part
and select MUTE

Now, go to the collection you took this video/audio clip from and drag
it down to the Audio/Music track

The first time I saw this I have to admit I wondered what would happen
to the second video track...the answer is "Nothing at all". You have to
ensure that the Audio/Music track ic correctly aligned with the start of the
video track above of course otherwise you are going to have sound synch
problems.

You are now set-up for editing of the audio part without it affecting
the video. Simply move the Time Line Cursor to the point where you want to
make a cut, Right click the Audio/Music track and select the option "Cut".
Continue this until you have the sections suitably cut...then right click
those sections in the Audio/Mic track and select Delete.

Hope this helps.....

Best Wishes.....John Kelly

For that kind of detail, you should use online tutorials and books about
using Movie Maker. There are links on my website to them.

The posts stay online... and will be there when you get back.
