Audio Does not work

My audio just suddenly went out. My son said that he was listening to a song
from Kaza and then the song suddenly stopped and the audio has not worked
since.

I checked a functions of the the audio, but when I click on Media Devices
the "Usage" is not highlighted and when I try to play a file the error
"cannot play file. Another audio file may be in use"

The driver that I have says that it is installed and working properly. Also
when I go into Sounds and Devices it says "No Audio Device" and it is all
gray or disabled.

My audio device is "Unimodem half-duplex" but I also have "Legacy Audio
Drivers" for my speakers.....

If you have DSl or other such net gear, disable the uni-modem in the BIOS
set up.

Un-install your drivers for your soundcard comletely - including the
registry -don't forget to back it up first).

Re-boot.

Let Windows detect your sound card and then you can install the drivers (get
the most upto date ones from the manufacturer's website, XP specific.

If that doesn't work and your sound device is still greyed out, your sound
card has gone pear shaped. Buy another one (they're cheap enough). However,
disable the on-board sound (in the BIOS) if you choose this option.

Cheers,

Hello

I have the exact same problem, minus the kazaa part. My sound card is on
board. I've deinstalled and reinstalled the card and drivers in device
manager. I Disabled and reenabled audio in the bios. I even installed a new
sound card with same results. So it looks to me that XP is chocking some
where, maybe the registry. Can anyone help.
