having just done another xp pro install, each time i have to download the
cm18738/c30x pc1 audio device driver from ms ,the d/load / install box just
sits there with the packets flying across all boxes are ghosted !! i have no
choice but to restart which causes a serious crash and splits my unmovable
sys files in 2 !! this happens everytime, upon shutting down i get a error
box up saying dll validation failure . also i have to keep re-setting my
internet connection as it keeps failing using both b-band cd and windows
connection wizard.
i remove all unneccesary pc1 cards & only have 1x 512mb ram installed when
re-installing. HELP as i am rather fedup of keep having to freq - re-install.

Is that a driver for Microsoft hardware? If not then don't get the driver
from the windows update site. Get it from the device manufacturer's site or
from the motherboard manufacturer if it's an onboard device.

Why do you need to do so many XP installs? On a well-maintained machine
with healthy hardware, this is hardly ever necessary. Perhaps the root
cause is failing hardware and it would be a good idea to focus on that
instead of the audio driver (which you should not get from Windows
Update).

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).

Never get hardware updates from the Microsoft site, unless it's actually MS
hardware.
