Audio becomes distorted when clip put into show storyline

Audio becomes distorted and "tin sounding" when clip is
put into the show storyline. The audio is normal when
played within the collections location but as soon as I
drag and drop the clip into the show timeline the audio
becomes distorted, "tin and shricky" sounding. I am
using Windows Movie Maker 2 and I am capturing the video
from my camcorder in DV-AVI format. Reinstalling did not
help.
