I'd been going to suggest piltdownnman sign up at individual.net for the
free account to access text groups. But your suggestion would make things
simpler. Since it's a legit group, there is no reason for the ISP to turn
down the customer's request.

For reliable binary groups access, since piltdownman reports that their
ISP service is poor for that, it might be time to consider a third-party
pay service supplement. Depending on how important binaries are. Those
who use free servers for binaries, it appears to me they have to stay
on top of things a lot, change servers on a consistent basis...
