I am adressing you alex since you were so very helpful in my problem
with explorer and the avi files. Here is my new problem. Please assist
me if this is familiar to you as well oh and again thanks so much for
the other help!!!

I am having problems deleting folders in XP. I have many folders that
have subfolders and files in them. When I am finished with them I
normally just select them in windows explorer and hit the delete key.
However lately I am unable to do that. I get this error message.....

Error Signature:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2800.1556 Offset: 00046983

When this happens all the icons on the desktop dissapear and then they
come back. The only way that I have been successful in deleting is to
go into the sub folders individually and delete the files first then
the sub folders then the main folder.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks in Advance

All I can suggest is to make sure that you have non-damaged versions of
system components. Put the CD in the drive, exit its Autorun, then go
to Start - Run and give
SFC /SCANNOW

I tried this and it says "Insert your WindowsXP Professional Service
Pack 1 CD Now"
I dont think I have this since I inserted the only cd I have which is
XP Home and it does nothing. This is the same cd that I installed XP
with however I did all the updates.

That is a problem on Home systems with SFC, which appears to have a bug.
Hence my suggestion to have the CD in the drive *first* when it usually
will find it

Oh I did have the cd in the drive and I still got that message. Anyway
I went through the whole thing skipping the files I didnt have I
guess!
