Following a re-install of MS Outlook 2003, upon receiving an attachment
(usually a fowarded attachment) and attempting to double click the attachment
to open it, I receive a message box that essentially says the messaging
interface has returned an unknown error, restart Outlook. Restarting does
nothing. I can, however, right click the attachment, and do save as.
However, I have to "save as" all files NOT .msg file. Then I have to open
the saved file, and it will work. Any suggestions as to what is transpiring,
and why these attachments will not open with a simple double click - as
before? Thank you!

Try fixing your Outlook Secure Temp Folder. With Outlook closed, click
Start>Run and enter %temp% in the "Open" field. Click OK. You should get a
Windows Explorer window. In the folder list in the left-hand pane (if you
don't have one, click the Folders button in the toolbar). Click the minus
sign to the left of Temp (if it's open). Now, just below Temp you'll see
Temporary Internet Files. Click the plus sign to the left to expand
Temporary Internet FiIles and locate the folder whose name starts with OLK.
Select it and press Delete on the toolbar (or press the Delete key). Close
Windows Explorer and start Outlook . See if it works now.

Brian, thank you for your response. I did as you instructed (there were over
700+ objects in that file. There were actually 2 file that started with OLK,
so I deleted both. I could recognize some of the items in each file, and
they were old. Sadly, however, this hasn't made my problem disappear. Is
this perhaps a firewall issue. I have Norton AntiVirus installed anf Sygate
Personal Firewall (set at Normal), and I have an Trend-Micro Anti Spyware
program also. Again, thanks for your help!

Well, it was worth a shot. Sorry it didn't pan out.

I don't see how a firewall can cause an interface error, but if either the
firewall or the AV program has mail scanning enabled, disable it to see if
it matters (I doubt it, though). It also wouldn't hurt to create a new mail
profile.
