Attachments not opening

I can't seem to open attachments in my Outlook whether
they are word doc's or pictures. I have tried right
clicking on the att. & double clicking but still comes up
with the same error ..."Winword (or Photoed.exe) has
generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will
need to restart program." This I have done this & a
reboot of pc and run 'Detect & repair' but all to no
avail.

Any help would be appreciated.
