Attachment field

How do you display the attachment field.
At work when I include an attachment, the attachment appears in a field up
top.
However when my office mate attaches a file it's included in the body of the
e-mail.
I've tried changing his current view to match my current view but that
doesn't do the trick.
What's going on?

If I had been a little cleverer I would have searched for the answer before
posting!
Some other people had asked it previously.
