ATI Radeon or nVidia Geforce FX?

Hey guys - simple question (I hope!) for you here:

I've got about £40 to spend on a replacement graphics card as my
GeForce 2 has finally kicked the bucket. Pixel shading and Direct X 9
support seem pretty important so I want my new card ot have them.

Basically, which is the fastest out of the box card (I'm not interested
in any overclocking) at this price range by either nVidia or ATI

Cheers,

Matt

Since you're being a cheap bastard about this,(j/k)I would get a Geforce
6200 non TC.

The 3DMark results seem to suggest that the Radeon 9550 (not the SE
version) is the fastest.

Is this correct?

A 6200 should beat that hands down in that category.

The refurbished 9700 Pro
http://www.retekdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Video_Cards.html
will do you nicely. You can play current games on it at modest settings
depending on your CPU and RAM of course. Helluva lot better than a 9550! If
you can afford more then look at Nvidia 6600 range.

oh and btw - use the 4.12 or 5.1 drivers - Ive played through FEAR, HL2, Far
Cry, COD2 and more with no problems on this card. XP2400 and 1gb DDR.

In the bottom feeder category, the 6200 128Mb is hard to beat. It'll wipe a
9550 . Just make 100% sure you do NOT get the TC version....you want the
6200 128Mb.
