ATI AIW 128 pro AGP and Win 2000

Werner B.

Hello all there,

I've got a ATI-AIW 128 Pro AGP and upgradet my computer from Win 98 to Win
2000 Prof. SP3.

The current videodriver-version is 5.13.01.3279.

Now I like to watch and record TV on my computer. By installing the
Multimediacenter MMC71noDVD.exe or Controlpanel 6.14.10.5021 I get the
message "Wrong video driver". What am I doing wrong? Where can I find the
current Drivers/Programs for my videocard? I also would like to see (and
hear) the videos recorded with Win 98 and if succesfull with Win 2000.

Many thanks and greetings from Hannover/Germany where the sun is shining

My computer with AIW128 pro also uses 5.13.01.3279. It works great with MMC
7.7.

To get MMC 7.7, go to ATI web site get the following 4 files using Catalyst
2.1 and Radeon family link. (They stop updating 128 pro family drivers/MMC.
But AIW 128 pro and Radeon family use the same Theater chip to capture. I
have also tried the newer Catalyst drivers, but they are not as good as
version 2.1.)

The four files you need are:

tv-capture-wdm-6-13-010-6125.exe
MMC-7-6-noDVD.exe
dvd-7-6.exe
MMC-7-7-0-0-update.exe

To install, followng the steps:
1. Check you have installed MS Direct 8.1 and MS windows media player 7.1 or
later.
2. Install display driver (5.13.01.3279), don't reboot, install catpure
diver (6.13.10.6125), reboot.
3. Install MMC 7-6-no-DVD. Reboot.
4. Install DVD 7-6. Reboot.
5. Install MMC 7-7-update. Reboot.

Post installation:
1. Change the settings for your need. SVCD setting is a good choice for
capture. Don't forget to set the temporary and final capture destination
directories to the same directory.

Actually, you don't need to install MMC 7.6, only DVD 7.6 and MMC 7.7. MMC
7.7 is a complete version: it's only DVD 7.6 that is upgraded to 7.7; the
rest installs anyway. There are circumstances where DVD 7.7 will install
along with the rest of MMC 7.7 even without DVD 7.6 being installed
previously - there must be a complete version in the MMC 7.7 installation,
not just upgrade files. The MMC 7.7 file is certainly large enough. The
best order for driver install, as well, still seems to be capture driver
first, whatever ATi say now.

So, apart from DirectX and Media Player, I would recommend: capture driver,
don't reboot, display driver, reboot (also, if you want Control Panel, that,
then reboot), then DVD 7.6, reboot and finally MMC 7.7 and reboot. I think
it's always a good idea to do a custom install with MMC (or, indeed, any app
offering a custom install or equivalent - even if it's just to see what's
going in) and deselect anything you don't want - I never install the CD
player, for instance; I've got better ones on my system and the ATi one is a
real file association hog.
