Ati 9700 pro

Hello,

I wonder what will be a rational upgrade for this card (ati 9700 pro) and
not buying the most expensive card available.

Thanks

Lane

An X800XL.It's gonna cost you around 290$ and it's roughly two times
faster than a 9700Pro(which I also have btw. and am looking to buy an
X800XL).

the 6600GT is the budget king at the moment. Not a lot more expensive than
a 9800Pro but definitely quicker especially when using OpenGL or AA and AF.

Agreed. I would not upgrade a 9700 Pro unless you require in excess of
1024x768 in newer games.

That's the conclusion I came to also. 1024x768 is my prefered res as
then I can also still read any text on the screen. I noticed in lots
of the benchmarks that the flight sims I play perform about the same
on a 9800pro @ 1024x768 32bit as they do on the newer cards, it's only
when you up the res, the FSAA and anisiotropic filtering that the new
cards really show off. I'll sit this generation out, or I'll buy this
generation when the next generation is out and this generation is a
hell of a lot cheaper.

True, although I seriously would not consider a 6600GT to be a worthwhile
enough improvement from a 9700 Pro.
