Does anybody know where there is a site that explains why Athlons run faster than their advertised clock speeds.

My friend here can't work out why a 3500 Athlon can give a P4 2.8 or 3.0 a run for its money

Any suggestions?

It’s all to do with IPC, "instructions per clock cycle"

AMD's processors can process more information in one cycle than other processors can, therefore they don’t need to go as fast

Here's an article on the XP processor, which i know are getting dated now, but i guess the principle is the same for the newer 64 models

Also FSB's are getting better these days

Hope that helps
