Athlon 1100 bios settings A7N8X

Chris Wilson

I have been told that my processor is running too slowly, it's an AMD
Athlon XP 1100. In the bios settings can someone tell in really simple
terms how to manually configure things to run it as AMD intended (NOT
overclocked :)) Board is Asus A7N8X with very latest bios flashed.
Memory is 1 gig DDR PC3200.

Thanks!

What processor is it? There's no such thing as an Athlon XP 1100

If it's an Athlon 1100 then I presume 100MHz FSB with a Multiplier of 11.

You RAM should be set synchronous to the FSB, but it's an old CPU you have.
Probably best to run RAM at 200MHz (thats 200% of the FSB), unless stability
is sacrificed.

I suspect a typo. :)

Even if such a beast existed, it would not be in keeping with the mobo or
PC3200 RAM.

Perhaps an XP2100?

I'd like to say "typo" but have to admit to being a computer idiot, I
threw the box it came in away, and I can't see any documentation that
states what "model" it is. I got the 1100 moniker from using the
AsusProbe utility, and it says:

Socket designation: Socket A
Type: Central Processor
Manufacturer: AMD
ID: 000006A0 0383FBFF
Version: AMD Athlon XP
Supported voltage: 1.8v
External clock: 100 MHz
Max Speed: 3000 MHz
Current speed: 1100 MHz
Status: Socket populated. Enabled
Processor upgrade: ZIF socket

Does that give enough info to ID? I feel a real idiot, I don't know what
I have bought.... <VBG>

Thanks.

Removing the heat sink and fan revealed AXDA2500DKV4D

Does that mean it's a 2500 then? What's a Barton?

In the BIOS POST script it shows Main Processor AMD Athlon XP 1100MHz

It's that that made me believe it was an AMD 1100, I guess I'd better
stick to race engines <VBG>

Thanks for your patience ;-)

You need to set the Front Side Bus to 166 MHz. That'll give you 166 x11
= 1833 Mhz, it's true speed or a rating of 2500+. The Barton refers to
the revision of the core, before that it was Thoroughbred, before that
Palamino.

OK, I understand this a lot better now, and the PC is running a lot
faster. Thanks again :)

Mea Culpa, it is an Athlon 2500+ and is now running at correct speed.
thanks to everyone for their patient help!

If faster's important you could put the FSB to 200 MHz, equivalent to a
3200+ and see if it's stable at that. A lot of 2500 Bartons will make
3200 fairly easy.

I am more than happy if it works reliably at its rated speed, I am far
too much of a PC illiterate to try my luck overclocking it :) Thanks
anyway <G>
