At the end of my rope...

I really desperately need help. We have a desktop with WindowsXP home edition. It's been messed up since I downloaded some updates or something. I think they got corrupted or something, and our Explorer hasn't worked since.

I had the brilliant (sarcasm) idea of using the System Restart to restore our computer to its former glory. However, it doesn't seem to have worked.

I went through the "Register computer" wizard thing. I get to the final screen, with the "Finish" button at the bottom of the screen. I hit the button. And it does nothing. The hourglass comes up and it does nothing.

I've restarted the computer manually about then times. Every times the computer comes back up, the wizard pops back up at the ending page. And I click "Finish" because there's nothing else to do. I've unplugged the computer entirely; left it unplugged all night.

It still won't work and I'm seriously at the end of my rope. If no one can help me, can I at least get a number for a help/tech line?
