ASUS V8200 on modern 4x/8x motherboards

Hi All,

I'm x-posting to the 4 specific motherboard groups that are relavant to the
top-of-the-line boards I'm looking at buying. I believe this is the
correct thing and not innapropriate. My appologies if you believe I am
mistaken.

I'm looking at buying a new motherboard, but from downloading all the top
motherboard's manuals I see that none of them support 3.3v cards.
My current video card (ASUS v8200 deluxe) appears to only run at 3.3v.

Is there any sort of adapter or other work around that I can use to get
around this?

The newer, recetn boards often do not support 3.3v video cards; which
sometimes
gives headache and frustration, especially those who are financially
constrained.

If you intent to use your card, some older model, like the , P4T-E, P4T-533C
may be good ones; but if you think about RAM types and some use into near
future,
it may be better to think about how much you may be able to upgrade. Then
look
for board, RAM, CPU.

A cheap video card is the FX5200, or even Ti series, which will be enough
for quite a time.

Is this your card ?

According to that page, the V8200 is a Geforce3 Ti200.
If you look at the specification page:

it says the card support AGP 4X, and that requires the use of 1.5V I/O
on the AGP slot. Also, looking at the picture of the edge card on
the video card, it has two slots cut in it. One slot means 3.3V compatible
and the other means 1.5V compatible - in short, the card is universal.

of the edge card and what the slots cut in the card mean. I think your
combination of video card and new 1.5V-only motherboard will look like

Excellent!

This is my card here: http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=V8200%
20Deluxe&langs=09
, but it has the right number of slots to be universal and lists 4x in
the specification.

The only concern is the existance of the Rage Fury Maxx2 card, which
appears to have the right cuts, but isn't really universal, and in my
manual, it says the card will have problems if anything less than 3.3v
shows in the maintenance utility they have.

Looks like it's worth a try though, thanks!
