Asus P5GD2 re-starts if LAN cable in attached

I have recently replaced my modem/router for a different make (Belkin)
and now when I shut-down my PC it restarts again after 20 seconds or so.
If I disconnect the LAN cable from the rear of the machine before I
shut-down it remains off. I have disabled everything I can find in the
BIOS that controls 'wake up on LAN' but the problem persists.

Any ideas?

It is a common problem with the I-9xx chipsets. I had the same problem with
the restarting and it almost drove me nuts. I finally went to the Asus site
and got the newest drivers for the Marvell Yukon LAN....v8053??.....can't
remember. I believe they were from late 2004/early 2005. There is also an
obscure setting in Device Manager under the controller-advanced and wake up
and startup capabilities. Turn them off. The newer drivers may do the trick
for you alone.
