Can you do raid with ide drives with this motherboard?

I have already 2 Western Digital Caviar 80GB Special Edition 8MB Cache

Ideally I would like to do RAID 0+1 by buying another 2 of the above
disks. Is it possible to do that or even RAID 1 or RAID 0 with this
motherboard with IDE drives or do you need to buy the SATA drives to
do this?

The board has 2 RAID controllers (Intel ICHR5 and Promise)

Not 100% sure, but afaik, the intel runs the SATA, and the promise is the
controller for IDE.

This MB has two SATA raid ports and one PATA raid port.

Yes you would have to buy the SATA drives to build an array

with your other two drives.

you could use the existing 2 hard drives for RAID 0 or 1 with the PATA raid
port (setup as master and slave). Warning that this could be very slow.

Or you could buy a SATA adapter for your existing hard drives.

Or better still, buy two new SATA hard drive (such as raptor WD)

If you want to setup RAID 0+1, you need to have 2 PATA and 2 SATA drives on
this MOBO ( I think)

Cheers.

You can do RAID0,1,0+1 with two PATA dirves (UDMA133 supported) on the
Promise controller. Connect to PRI_RAID connector.

In addition, you can also use the Promise controller with two SATA drives.
Connect to the SATA_RAID1 and SATA_RAID2 connectors.

You can't use four PATA drives.
