I'm not sure what the problem is...I just added this video card and a new
500 Watt Ultra X-Connect power supply. I'm getting distorted video images
at boot up. The post screen is all distorted and usual ends as lock up.
Sometimes it goes as far as the windows loading screen...again
distorted..with X's and O's running down the screen. After several attempts
it will finally go to the scan disk screen and then eventually to a clean
boot. Getting Windows XP errors too.

Asus A7N8X 400FSB with Geil 2X512 dual memory. Athlon XP 3000+ nothing over
clocked!! Windows XP pro w/sp2. Newest nvidia drivers

Any help is appreciated

You may have some previous driver files that have not been removed. What was
your previous video card ?

Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any
drivers.

a.. Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing
the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

a.. Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display
drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display
Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

I read some other review too, (good and bad) before I purchased X-Connect.
Yes, I'm also questioning the power supply.
My only problems are at a cold boot up. I took me several attempt this
morning. Once the computer is working the issues seem to go away!?

Can you run a version of 3DMark without crashing ? I use
3Dmark2001SE from futuremark.com, as a quick test. Any 3D app that
runs a video card 100%, will be a good test of the power supply
and video card at the same time. You can also run a copy of
Asus Probe (or even MBM5 in your case) in the background while
doing 3DMark. MBM5 has a "log to file" option, so every
10 seconds or so, voltage readings are written to disk. On
Asus Probe, the results are all graphical.

As I don't really understand what you are seeing on the
POST screen, I don't understand why it is corrupted, and
Windows is not. A computer sitting in the BIOS screen,
draws about 1/2 power, so it is not typically a "max
power" situation. If you were using a Matrox card, I could
understand seeing issues in the BIOS, as there was some
disagreement about VESA modes with some of their models.
If you had bad RAM on the video card, I would expect it to
remain bad while in Windows.

Thanks for the help..Paul

I'm running Asus probe now..I'll check out 3DMark.

When I boot the Post screen is distorted...I get color images across
monitor, but color is discolored, text not legible.....wiggle and moving
lines. This distortion may continue through window XP load screen. I have
power down several times. If I get to the scan disk screen it will usual
post correctly on the next reboot. When I get the BIOS screen the post
correctly...even thing seem to be ok. If I didn't mention it....I recently
purchased a BFG 6800 OC, video card. As I talk this through....It maybe the
video card. I reinstalled the video drivers this morning....nothing has
changed.
