Association for activating .scr files manually

S

I have searched microsoft data base for this problem and evidently don't
know what to ask because I can't locate any information on it.

I keep a shortcut to scrnsave.scr in quicklaunch on the taskbar where I can
click to activate a blank screen on demand. This has always worked well for
me, until lately ... now any .scr file opens in notepad when it is clicked
(the icon has also changed to show notepad) screen savers still work when
set to activate automatically in display properties.

scr is not listed in folder options as a registered file type and a right
click on the file does not provide an "open with" choice ... the choices are
"test" which opens in notepad ... "configure" and this screen saver has no
options ... "install" which opens the display properties box.

How can I change this from opening in notepad? I want to activate it not
open it. Can I set an association for it in file associations? and if I do,
what do I list as the program required to open it?

I'm puzzeled as to why this change. I run Trend Micro Pc-Cillin internet
security which updates automatically usually several times a day.

Thanks for your help.
