Assistance anyone?

I cannot open message5txt files in attachments per e-mails. How can I
correct this? this also happens with pps attachments. Do I need to purchase
additional software, or am I missing something?
 
I had tried the download a couple of days ago to no avail. The computer is
on a network server, does that help. Any other suggestions?
