Hi

I would like to associate the ".log" file extension with this exe file
C:\archive\baremetalsoft\baretail.exe

I right-clicked the prod.log file and selected Open With, Choose Program...,
clicked on Browse... selected baretail.exe and OK. Also enabled "Always use
the selected program to open this kind of file".

But, it's not showing up on the list so I can't make it the default program
association.

Any ideas ?

If you did that then all *.log files (no matter the origin) would open with
C:\archive\baremetalsoft\baretail.exe

It would be a better idea to leave these unassociated or associated with a
text editor such as Notepad. If the need arises to open a .LOG file with a
specific program, launch the program and then use File> Open.

I prefer to associate it with Baretail, but it doesn't seem possible. Maybe
something
is wrong with Baretail, even though it seems like a longshot.

..log was associated ONCE with Baretail, then I associated it with Word,
which worked, but now that I want to reassociate it with Baretail, it simply
doesn't work.

By the way Notepad is not good at opening 2 GB files, Baretail is...

Try changing it in Explorer-Tools-Folder Options File Types.

....Alan

OK, I went to Folder Options, File Types and selected LOG

Clicked on Change... button and the dialog (Open With) appears

Clicked on Browse... and selected C:\archive\baremetalsoft\baretail.exe
Clicked on Open

Baretail is not listed under Recommended Programs, nor is it listed under
Other Programs in the Programs list view.

Hmm, I wonder where it might be ?

I don't know why you are hung up on baretail.exe not being listed.
That doesn't stop you making an association with .log files.

Does it now work?
If not, go back to File Types and use Advanced instead of Change and
tell us what you have for the Open action.

....Alan

Allright, that got me on the right track.

There weren't any "open" action, so I created one and associated it with
Baretail and THEN it started working.

Thanks
