Assigning a letter to 2nd hard drive after fresh install

I have 2 hard drives. one holds the operating system etc and the other is
kind of a file back up one in case i have to do something major like
reinstall the O.S. They have both been fine until recently i had some major
probs with the main drive and so did a fresh install of the OS ( xp).
However when i boot up it shows both drives, but when i check 'my computer'
it only shows the main drive. If i check with system devices it shows both
and disk management shows both.
When checking disk management it shows the main drive as drive C -
partitioned, active and healthy, but the other drive, although stating the
same, doesnt have a drive letter assigned to it.
How can i do this without lossing all the info on it? It's rather urgent!

From Disk Management, right click on the disk and choose Choose Drive Letter
and Paths. That should allow you to assign a drive letter.
