Right I know its slightly off the groove a bit but does anyone know good
websites/resources for assembling a PC from scratch.

Mega thanks in advance!

Matt

Your best bet would be to find someone near you to help instruct you, such
as a tech in a good computer shop (not CompUSA or Best Buy or anything like
that, more like PC Club). They will tend to help you out, because they
believe (and usually rightly so) that if they help you gain knowledge so
that you can work on your computer, they can sell you parts. If you have
any specific questions, reply back in this thread, and I will be happy to
help you.

uk.comp.homebuilt (or maybe there is a USA equivalent). Various
websites have been mentioned there (you can find them using
groups.google.com, to search for previous articles, or you can just use
www.google.com to look for appropriate websites).

Get a copy of "Build Your Own PC", by Morris Rosenthal.
Also, the Internet is a very good source. Another poster
suggested a local PC club, and that sounds like an
excellent idea. I've never met anyone in a tech shop who
knows much of anything (e.g., "What's a stepping?"; "ECC
memory, what's that?"; "Why shouldn't we use 36 inch
IDE cables?".) I learned totally from books and the
Internet.

It's not safe to assume that there is a good website for everything
these days. One must not forget the human factor as in your case it's
best to have a buddy help you out the first time you put one together.
