I just checked on my User Accounts and ASPNET has appeared on them.I am sure
it wasn't there yesterday.I am not on a network,my computer is a single-user
one and I connect to the Internet via a modem.Where has it come from? Can I
remove it safely? TIA.

It's an account created with the installation of the Microsoft .Net
framework which is installed through windows update. It's a new
platform on which programs can be developed and run. There are some
programs now that use .Net and more will be. If you don't have any that
do you can remove .Net from Add/Remove programs and remove the account
if it's still there afterwards, or just leave things as is. It won't
hurt anything.
