ASPI layer - SCSI - Exabyte 8200

Sandie

Hi

I had to upgrade to WinXP recently because a new software
update I purchased won't run on Win98SE.

I have three SCSI devices daisychained - Agfa 1236
scanner, Nikon Coolscan III and an Exabyte 8200 tape unit.

I have downloaded the ASPI layer and can successfully run
the first two items, but I'm told there is no driver for
the tape unit.

XP knows the tape unit exists but places in the ? section
of device manager.

I would appreciate any help to get the tape drive going
again under XP. (By the way, does XP have Backup like
98?)

Cheers

Sandie.

Are all the scsi devices switched to
different numbers? thru the jumpers?
on the front/back of the scsi devices?

like 6-5-4 etc? So, they have different
scsi id's?

Have u tried deleting that ? and rebooting?

What v have you got of the aspi drivers?
4.7.1.2 or 2.a?

Contact Exabyte and see if this drive is compatible with XP and if there is
even a driver available.

XP does have a backup app. IIRC, it is normally installed if you
have XP PRO, and normally not installed if you have XP HE.

If it is not installed, you can install it from the XP CD -- but
only if you have a "real" XP CD (either retail or OEM). Most of
the recovery CDs that are included when you buy a PC with bundled XP
omit the backup app. {Worse, obviously, if you didn't even get
a recovery CD and then didn't backup your HD on day one.}

The bundled backup app is a "backup lite" program, with many
restrictions. If you buy a better backup app, first make sure
that it supports your specific tape under XP.
