Since I installed the .Net Framework on my PC, I have a
new user account called ASP.net Machine...

I see its a Limited account, Password protected.

This machine is a Pent 4, 1.8Ghz, with 1.0G memory.

On another desktop, the user account did not appear after
installing .net framework. The other machine is a Pent4,
3.0GHZ, with 1.0G memory.

Can anyone help me to understand why that user account is
there, maybe who would use it, and password? (since I
don't even know the passoword.

Thanks in advance.

Rob

The asp.net user account is the account that the .net framework uses to work
correctly. This is normal to have the account after installing the .net
framework. Just ignore the asp.net user.

Thank you for the response.

I wonder though if I should be concerned that one machine
does NOT have the ASP user though .net framework is
installed.

Thanks again.

It depends on which version of Net Framework and also which version of XP SP
you have installed. To test between the two, install TweakUI, then go to
Logon. Is show ASP....listed on both systems?

It is used by .Net framework - I don't know why it is necessary to it.
Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Logon page, uncheck the 'Show ASPNET on Welcome screen', leaving
just the line for your own user account(s) checked
