ASP.Net - a couple of questions

D

Dave

I just installed a game patch on my home computer and afterward ended
up with an ASP.NETv1.1 account. I've read the article found on
http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/aspdot.php but I have several
questions:

(I) Prior to installing the game update I already had Net Framework
2.0 installed on this computer. When I installed Net Framework v2.0 I
didn't end up with an extra account. Now, according to my Control
Panel Add/Remove option, I have both Net Framework v1.1 and Net
Framework V2.0 installed on my computer. Are both these programs
necessary? Or are they two different programs?

(2) I'd like to delete the Net Framework v1.1 account so that I can
boot up my computer directly without having to deal with a logon
window. I'm also wondering if this program was installed because this
game has an option for online gaming. If this is the reason this
account was installed, and since I don't intend to do any online
gaming, would it be okay to delete this account so that I can go back
to my normal boot up routine?

Thanks,

Dave

Yes.

There is no need to delete the ASP.Net account. Some other program will recreate it
sometime later anyway. You can enable Autologon:
---Method--1----------
- Click Start > Run
- Type "control userpasswords2" (Without quotes)
- Click OK
- Select your account from the list
- Uncheck "User must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
- Click OK
- If it asks, enter your user name and password.
---------------------------

---Method--2----------
1. Download TweakUI*
2. Click Start > Run
3. Type tweakui
4. Expand Logon > Click "AutoLogon"
5. Tick "Logon Automatically at system startup"
6. Verify your User name & Password (by clicking "Set password")
7. Click OK to exit tweakui
---------------------------

Yes, they are different and some programs will ask to install .Net 1.1 and
other will ask to install .Net Framework 2.0 and also .Net Framework 3.0.

No, you shouldn't delete this account (ASP.NET Machine) as it will be
recreated or some program will not function properly.

Thank you!

I already have TweakUI installed; it's just that I don't use the
program enough to remember that it does have this option.

A year or so back on another computer I had the same problem with a
ASP.Net account being installed. I asked for help and someone posted
the same steps you posted in Method 1 but apparently I didn't make a
copy for my own future reference. I'll make sure I make a copy this
time.

Again, I appreciate your help.
