asd documents

Like a few others on the site, I am trying to open an document that has been
autosaved. And like the others, it did not present itself to me upon the
opening of word. And, like the others, the suggestions provided by the staff
containing such helpful phrasing as, "...there is no way I know of to access
their contents." has been less than helpful. My question is, why haven't you
figured out a way to access the autosave documents, so that they may live up
to their full potential and actually SAVE SOMETHING!?

There are no 'staff' contributing to this forum. It is a peer group forum.
Microsoft has no involvement beyond hosting the forum. So asking why 'you'
haven't done anything is misdirected at people who have no involvement in
the software development.

There is no 'autosave' function in Word (though one can be achieved with
vba - http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm )

What Word has is a function to recover data in the event of a crash. How
successful this will be depends on the cause of the crash and what files
have been damaged in the process. ASD files were never intended to be copies
of the document or to be opened by any method other than the autorecovery.
FWIW autorecover is most reliable in Word 2003, but it is by no means
foolproof. There is no substitute for pressing CTRL+S every time you pause
for thought.
