I made a webpage of the troubles I'm having with XP

http://www.orchidtrek.com/trouble/trouble.html

On start up I get lines in vertical columns over the entire XP Opening page,
the cursor has picked up dot artifacts, and images assiciated with shortcuts
and inside programs (for example here I can't see the images associated with
'print' or 'replies'.

Any help or ideas?

Same problem with another monitor? If not, your monitor needs to be
replaced.

If you get the same problem on a second monitor, you almost certainly
need a new video card. But here are some other things you might check:

With the computer powered off, unplug the video cable from both ends and
plug it back in. The cable may have been loose.

Again with the computer powered off, unplug the video cable and examine
both ends. Are any of the pins bent or broken? If so, you need a new
video cable.

Reinstall or upgrade your video driver. (This is least likely to be
helpful.)

OK, Good idea...

I'm using the monitor on 2 computers (Samsung syncmaster 19T) in a/b mode.
I don't have this problem with the other computer.

I'll try it with another monitor. (I had hoped to not have 2 monitors on my
desk... oh well)
