Interesting article on Symantec/McAfee and Windows Vista.

Basically, Symantec/McAfee are saying that MS has deliberately withheld
information on the Vista API. Maybe this is old news, but not to me.

Personally, I have resolved never to put another Symantec product on any
of my machines, so it does not bother me either way.

Why would you not put a Symantec product on your system ever again?

I find the corporate products at work at terrific. The "Norton" series
of products are horrible and speak for themselves, but the corporate
line is just the opposite.

What might I ask are you using in leui of Symantec products? McAfee?

I will never again use symantec antivirus or security products again either.
their products have over the years become too bloated. The older versions
that were designed for win98 were great and probably the best available but
it's all been downhill from there the newer version of nortons antivirus and
internet security use far too many system resources. And they are a
nightmare to uninstall and reinstall.

These days I use Avast and it's working very well form me and it doesn't
slow down my system it also has no issues with vista build RC1 5600, RC1
5728 or RC2 5744 Avast home edition build 4.7.892 runs very well with no
restrictions from windows defender or UAC
I'm very happy with it and will never look back. I've have also got Xp media
center 2005 running in dual boot with vista and I also have avast running on
that and I was surprised at how much quicker XP runs without nortons on it.

OK, I guess I meant Norton. Expensive bloatware. Almost impossible to
remove from machine. Need I say more?

Agreed Will. I regularly deal with more pc's that were 'broken' from the AV
software than from malware/virus issues. I've been using AVG free and love
it.
If I want a second opinion, then MS has an online scanner, as does Trend
Micro.

I prefer my pc bloat free.

I agree with anyone who will never again use Norton or McAfee!!! Many horror
stories re: uninstall issues, slow computers, etc, etc!!! I have been using
AVG Pro, Avast, Webroot AV Beta, and Trend Micro. I like AVG the best, Avast
is great too. Webroot AV is still beta, but seems good so far. None of the
four I use slow me down like Norton or McAfee. Never, never again will I
either use OR recommend either of them!!!
