Arrows and Shortcut keys do not work when selecting cell ranges

When trying to add additional series to a X-Y Scatter
Chart, the arrow keys and shortcuts do not work to select
a cell range for the series "NAME", "X Values", or "Y
Values".

Details:
After Selecting to add a new series under
the "Chart" "Source Data" "Series" tab, I click the
colapse dialog button to the right of each "NAME", "X
Values", and "Y Values" box to select a range of cells for
each box.
The intermitant problem is that I can not use my arrow
keys or shortcuts to select a range of cells in the
worksheet, only the mouse works on the worksheet, which
take forever to select 30,000 data points. It's much
quicker to do a shift end down arrow to select an entire
column of data, but this doen't work anymore, as the
arrows only navigate the mini dialog box.

What do I have to do to fix this problem, and be able to
use arrow keys and shortcuts to select a range of cells?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I'm pretty sure you can't fix
this behavior. We've had this discussion before in this group with no
positive results. This bug is one of my personal peet peeves. :(
