When I try to arrange my desktop items by name, they
don't all go into apla order?
How can I do that
Thanks

You right click in a blank area on the desktop and select Arrange Icons by
name.

You may be seeing the following effect (I don't know how to change it,
though):

The "common" icons come first (My Documents, My Computer, Network
Neighborhood, Recycle Bin) - these are put there by being part of the
"Namespace" of the desktop. Then you may get Internet Explorer, and perhaps
Outlook/Express, depending on whether they are set to "show on desktop". Then
you get the things that are on "All Users" desktop, and then your individual
user profile's stuff - these are each separated separately into folders (or
folder shortcuts) and files (or shortcuts to files). They should get sorted
alpha within each of these groups (except that there is a separate setting
that controls whether My Documents or My Computer comes first). As you can
see, since the icons come from different sources, it gets complicated to
specify a sort order for all of them in common.

If you are the only user on the computer, you could move all of the stuff from
the "My" and "All" desktops so that they are all on only one of those desktops
(you'll have to browse into C:\Documents and Settings to do this) - at least
then everything except the first 4-6 icons should sort.
