Arial font changed after program installation

I installed a program that messed up my computer. I uninstalled it but now
all my Arial fonts look a little different; in XP, Office, browser, etc.. I
have "ClearType" chosen in Effects<Appearances in Properties (from my
desktop). I've restarted my computer but I can't seem to get the font back to
looking normal. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I replaced my arial.ttf file with the one on my backup CD but that did not
change anything. Could the problem be related to my display? Help and TIA!
