I can't get anything new that uses ActiveX because my Internet
Explorer Info bar is not showing when downloading ActiveX.

"When the info bar apperears, click OK to download ActiveX" it says,
but what do I do when that d**n bar is never appearing at all :-(

Can't even get MS Genuine Validation Tool (must use the "alternative
method" each time). All settings for security etc is OK.

Have been emailing with MS Norway. No resolution.

Anyone else have any good suggestion?

Is there a way to restore/reinstall the Internet Explorer Info bar?

Even stranger. I seems like the ActiceX has been downloaded (in
Windows\Download Program Files there is an ActiveX control from today
that is called ProductIDGatherer.WindowsGatherer). But still...

When I had the same problem with WindowsUpdate I had to copy the DLLs
and stuff from another computer (where this is still working).

tools>internet options>security tab...

Click on the internet icon and then the custom button.

You need to check if you can download and script activex controls BUT only
those which are signed or marked as safe. Read the settings carefully
because they can be misunderstood.

If you have settings that disable them activex won't work anyway.

Another way to do this assuming your settings fro the trusted zone have not
been changed from defaults is to follow the procedure above but instead of
clicking on the internet zone put the URL in the trusted zone.

When you make changes close all internet explorer windows and start over.

All settings are default. ActiveX'es are allowed.
This was the first thing we checked.

Have to XPpro installations with this problem, and one where the
info-bar appears as it should. But can't find any differences.

Does anyone know what services, registry entries, DLLs etc that might
be required for the info-bar to work? There's got to be something that
is changed, damaged or missing? It has worked on this PC before :-(
clicking on the internet zone put the URL in the trusted zone.

Tried that too. All Microsoft sites are allready in the Trusted

I saw a post earlier where someone mentioned replacing .dlls but darned if I
can find it again :)

However you are correct, well worth having a look...

Pop-up or Ad Blocker, Norton or McAfee application running in background?

Tried disabling all (have WebWasher and avast! web-scanner, but they
also run on the one that work, and it doesn't help disabling them).

I still think it must be a missing DLL, a missing/wrong registry
entry, a service that is needed for the info bar, or similar...

But I can't find it :-/

[<2MuchSummit> I thought he said the *download* doesn't appear.]

Just to clearify, I get all the warnings about EXE files and stuff,
but as dialog boxes. I never see the info bar at all. It's like it was
before I installed SP2 and the info bar was added :-(
