Hello. I have been to the Norton (Symantec) website looking for a forum to
help answer my question about the problem I am having with being
disconnected from the internet every 2 hours. I could not find a forum to
ask questions at their website. Does anyone know of somewhere I could go to
ask questions pertaining to Norton programs? Thanks! Paula S.

Unfortunately, Symantec has chosen to discontinue the public forums.
Recently I discussed this with their marketing officials. Symantec now
makes it "Very" difficult for their customers to obtain help beyond the
database search or their paid incident service.
To my view, that type of isolation indicates that the company doesn't
want any public viewing of their issues or have known problems put
out in the light of day for everyone to see.
I'm convinced that as products achieve a high % of the market, the
natural result is poor technical support or the "Outsource" approach.
Best I remember at the end of Symantec's forums the tone and tenor
of customer posts had gotten very harsh.
I was told that Symantec is aware of the ramifications of terminating
the forums and will be addressing that. Whether that was placating me
or truthful - We'll have to wait and see.
XP General gets a fair amount of Symantec questions, but it's best to
use their Support start page, found here:
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/support_options.html

Here is a Symantec link for "FREE" technical support, for their products.
It covers most comon situations:

http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/consumer.html

I doubt the problem you describe has any relationship to any Symantec/Norton
products. If you could supply more details, I might be able to help you.
Have you checked for spyware, using free downloads such as Ad Aware, or
SpyBot Search & Destroy?

Good thing it's free, cause this kind of "help" sure isn't worth much......

Solution:
Symantec is aware of this problem, and there is no solution at this time. We
will continue to track this problem, and this document will be updated if
new information becomes available or a solution is found.

In my visits to club members homes with the same problem, I found hundreds
of malware programs that forced internet disconnects. Download, install,
update and scan with Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com

If you have a dialup than it may be a hard disconnect. ie somthing your
ISP setup.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer my question. I will look
into these suggestions. Hopefully, something will help me. I also DL the
manuals for SystemWorks (I have misplaced mine), and maybe I will find
something in the manual to help also. Thanks again! Paula

Hello Bill, I do have Spybot on my machine. Never thought of running that
to help with this issue.. I will... and get back to you. Thanks! Paula

Hello Sandy. This is the 'roadblock' I had been coming across as well.
Seems to me, that a product of this type would want to keep in touch with
their customers a little better! I was kind of surprised to not find a
'forum' as such, but someone else had said that Symantec discontinued the
forum. Too bad for us, who need help out here! Paula

Hello Plato, I have talk with my dial-up ISP three times about this very
issue. Each time, they end up saying that it must be on my end, not theirs.
They walk me through the setup, and can find nothing wrong. A couple of the
reps have said that it must be a setting in my anti-virus software. That's
why I am looking into it with Norton... and coming up with roadblocks there
too. So, I posted here in the newsgroup because I know so many of you help
people everyday....

However, apparently they have discontinued support for Norton
SystemWorks 2003, consequently there is no help for problems with SP2
such as the inoperability of LiveUpdate and Scheduling NAV to run. And
I am not about to purchase 2004 just to find out if it works or not!

Just noting the 2 hour thing is a classic time limit ISPs have used in
the past. If they advertised that folks wouldn't subscribe.

Some ISPs commonly dont admit problems. For example, my first webhost
for my website went down one Saturday. I called the owner and he said
everthing was fine the problem was on my end. Since it didnt work on any
other pc I took a ride to his office. IT was surrounded by Fire Trucks
still putting out the building fire and the owner was outside saying
everything was fine on his cell phone the same time as water was pouring
out of his offices casement windows ie the servers were in the basement
level.

Who is gonna complain to Symantec about a CRL issue again? No Symantec
newsgroup, no hordes of confused and angry customers without a clue. If
anything, Homeland Security should require those boards to be reopened!

Miles - just an FYI.
I use SW2003 with SP2 and Liveupdate works fine so I don't think there's any
inherent conflict.
More likely there's a corrupt file somewhere or a firewall setting amiss.

I found one forum, rather inaccurately named, but it does cover some of the
problems people are having.

Hi:

Meant to reply to the original post but can't find it.

Use Symantec online support for KB and/or write to their tech support - that
is what I do.

The response a bit of slow but that is better than nothing.

Good luck.
