are spaces in folder names a problem?

I was careful to use underscores and lower case in file names, but not
folder names. Is this a problem? If I rename a folder, does FP automatically
update all the links as it does when a file is renamed? I could use the
hyperlink update tool as a check afterwards.

I don't want to fix something that ain't broken, since that could cause new
problems. :)

As long as you have the site open in FP, then if you rename a folder, FP should automatically update
all links.

Space anywhere in a URL is bad.

OK, thanks! I fixed it. I bet that's why my site stats were showing quite a
few 404 file not found views.

Uh-oh. Now I'm getting even more 404 page views. It seems that Google had
indexed at least part of my site before I took the spaces out of some folder
names, so now a lot of links from Google don't work.

Any advice on what to do? I could put the folder names back the way they
were - the way Google has them. Or I could tough it out and hope the next
site index will correct the Google listings. I'm not sure how this works.

I just published the site 11 days ago, so in a longterm perspective these
broken links from Google are OK if - and only if - they'll be fixed. I guess
it might be another six weeks at the earliest? Or maybe if I submit the site
directly to Google, it could be sooner? My main concern is that the new
addresses won't get indexed ever. Could that happen?

Not that I'm anxious about my website or anything....:)

there is an add-in at www.jimcoaddins.com called spacereplacer or something
like that.

maybe put the names back the way they were with a meta refresh on each
pointing to the "repaired" named file.
