Are Maxtor logic boards s/n locked?

My Maxtor D740X -6L (Mx060040J2) is dead with a hole burnt in one of
the chips on the logic board. I got a drive of same model and swap the
board but it is not recongnized by BIOS.

Has Maxtor matched the Logic board to the s/n so that swapping is not
possible?

when I replaced the c/board on my 5T030H3(30Gig) I was told that the HDA,
PCBA, and Unique numbers should be identical. They also stipulated the PCBA
as being the critical number and that the card need not come from the same
model. ie the c/board off a 5T040H4 (40Gig) would have fitted and run my
drive.
