Are IDE RAID arrays compatible with different RAID controllers?

We're in the process of upgrading our non-essential development server with
a new motherboard and dual processors. The existing server is running two
IBM 256GB IDE hard drives configured as a striped RAID using a IT8212 PCI
RAID controller.

The new Gigabyte motherboard has an on-board Promise RAID controller.

What's the chances of moving the existing hard disks from one raid
controller to another and the data staying intact?

Cheers, Rob.

VERY LOW?

Sounds like you need a 512GB backup scheme. You do backup that information
that you now claim is worth keeping "intact" don't you?

Suspected as much.

Yes it's backed up but only once a month and it takes a lot of tape swaps on
a 40/80GB hard drive.

It's mainly full of GHOST images, copies of CD-ROMs for easier installs,
duplicate copies of customer data. That kind of thing.

Cheers, Rob.
