I have a pst file that i use to archive emails. I keep it on a portable hard
drive so i can read saved emails at work and at home. One day i opened the
pst at home to view my sent items. The next day at work, when i click on the
sent items folder in my pst to view the contents in the reading pane, a
message is displayed, "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook
could not access the specified folder location." I do NOT get the "pst
corrupted" message that instructs you to run scanpst.exe. When i view the
Web toolbar, the address of the folder is not "outlook:\\2008 Archive\***Sent
Items***" it is somethying cryptic,
"outlook:0000000097EA4491E5C3494B867A49C5903B1AA642820000". Scanpst was
unable to recover this folder. at home i run WXP Home and Pro at work. I
think there may be an issue with permissions on the drive, but i believe i
have set the group "everyone" to have all acces rights to it. Please help.

In exporer are you able to copy this pst to Documents, on your internal
disk, then within Outlook, open that pst?

i have copied to C drive and tried to open and the same error. i copied to
the c drive on my home computer too and the same thing.

yes, i know. i ran CHKDSK on the drive and that didnt work. any other
suggestions to try to recover the sent items?

Only a HD data recovery specialist company - much money required
Personally, FWIW at this stage, I wouldnt reccommend keeping active data on
an external, if no backups of the origonal data are kept elseware
